Where did you see God today? It is a question that needs to be pondered everyday if a person wishes to walk in faith. The gospel of Matthew records Jesus’ words as: “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.” (Matt. 7:7 ESV)
As I write these words I am riding a train home through the midwest with 22 of our 27 member mission team. For the past week we have been immersed in mission work that has put flesh to these words of Christ. Our team saw God in one another as we learned to live together under conditions that were outside of the norm for all of us. We saw God in the people we came to serve as they blessed us with their rich heritage. Some of us saw God in a heavenly display of northern lights; others experienced the divine in water battles, and volleyball games. So many blessings were bestowed upon us.
Why? Because when we were asked to see God we became intentional in our search for the divine. We were told to knock and subsequently we were able to walk through the door of heavenly recognition. We opened our eyes and found that God was there with us just as God had promised.
Yes, the mission trip was fantastic, but it was far from perfect! Twenty seven people from home had to learn to live together and look out for each other. But it wasn’t just us, we had to open our hearts to include people from Indiana, Michigan, Texas and North Dakota, fifty five in all! It wasn’t easy, as we had transportation problems, worksite issues, scheduling snafus, and even sleep deprivation… but through it all, we looked for God and God was there, relationships were built, friendships were made, and joy ruled the day!
Whatever you may be facing in life is sure to be etched with problems but I promise you that if you look for God, you will find the divine and the joy of Jesus Christ will win the day!
